Respiratory Equipment Service
Under the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), annual inspection and servicing of respiratory equipment—such as Emergency Escape Breathing Devices (EEBDs) and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBAs)—are mandatory to ensure operational readiness and crew safety.
Regulated by:
- SOLAS Chapter II-2, Regulation 10.10.3: Requires EEBDs to be inspected and maintained according to manufacturer instructions.
- IMO Resolution MSC.402(96): Outlines procedures for maintenance, testing, and servicing of life-saving appliances, including respiratory equipment.
Our Annual Inspection Checklist:
- Check for cracks, corrosion, and wear on facepieces, hoses, and cylinders.
- Ensure straps and buckles are intact and functional.
- Verify pressure levels and alarm systems.
- Check and ensure regulator and valve operation.
- Test airflow and seal integrity.
- Inspect hydrostatic test dates and refill air cylinders.
- Ensure cylinders are securely mounted and labelled.
- Confirm expiry date and integrity of seals.
- Check visibility of instructions and markings.
- Replace any damage or non-functional parts according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
